A fan field guide to villages, heroes, and wars that still feel like the real game

Hearthline is an independent reading desk for Clash of Clans, the free strategy game Supercell released on 2 August 2012. We write about the Home Village you actually upgrade: Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir, a Clan Castle full of donated troops, and a Town Hall that now reaches level 18. Heroes sit in the Hero Hall — Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Minion Prince, Grand Warden, Royal Champion, and Dragon Duke — and at the Town Hall 18 cap the King and Queen reach level 110. Nothing here sells gems, accounts, or a shortcut. The official game stays inside Supercell’s own apps.

How a village grows

Builders, laboratories, and a Clan Castle that changes every attack

Progress is a queue, not a single button. Builders raise cannons, mortars, air defenses, and later Eagle Artillery, Scattershots, and the Town Hall weapon. The Laboratory trains troops and spells while you sleep.

Clan Wars give every member one or two attacks, scored up to three stars. Clan War Leagues run a week of those battles for bonus loot. Builder Base is a separate island with its own Builder Hall, and Clan Capital opens on raid weekends for Capital Gold. If a line in our notes feels stale after a Supercell patch, write [email protected] and we will check it against the live client.

Real caps, named heroes, and notes that admit when a patch moved the numbers

We describe the game Supercell ships. Town Hall 18 arrived on 17 November 2025, with Guardians and a Revenge Tower, and later months added troop levels, siege machines, and hero caps.

At that cap, walls reach level 19 across 325 segments. The Laboratory goes to 16, the Pet House to 12, and a maxed village can field 32 regular troops, 9 siege machines, and 18 spells. The August 2026 update pushed Diggy to levels 11–15 and added supercharge tiers for the Builder’s Hut and the Monolith. Gold Pass purchases, when you want them, start in the official client from Town Hall 3.

August 2026: Diggy climbs, and two defenses pick up a supercharge

Supercell’s 30 August update gave Diggy levels 11 through 15 at Town Hall 18, plus fresh supercharge tiers on the Builder’s Hut and the Monolith. Season Challenges now begin at Town Hall 3.

Raid weekend loot, the Logger Guardian, and a Workshop that hit level 9

April’s Town Hall 18 pass added levels for ten troops, four siege machines, and six spells, and brought in the Logger Guardian plus the Sky Wagon. Capital Gold still funds the clan district, not a personal wallet.

Town Hall 18 is the cap

A fresh chief still starts with a cannon, a few walls, and Barbarians. The interesting stretch is the climb: X-Bows, Inferno Towers, Eagle Artillery, Scattershots, the Monolith, Spell Towers, and the Town Hall’s own weapon. By Town Hall 15 you can recruit Dragon Duke. Town Hall 17 introduced the Multi-Gear Tower and Firespitter. Town Hall 18 is where those systems currently max.

Hero equipment is forged in the Blacksmith, and pets live in the Pet House from Town Hall 14 upward. Books and hammers from the trader skip time, not the resource cost. We never ask you to buy those items from us — they exist only inside the official game.

Armies, defenses, clan weekends, and the two extra maps beside your village

The Handbook page holds the longer brief. This strip is the short version chiefs ask for before a war day.

Clash of Clans is free to install and free to attack with. Optional Gold Pass and gem packs are sold by Supercell inside the game, at the price your store shows. Hearthline does not take payment, does not trade accounts, and does not offer unofficial currency. Questions about a note can go to +44 (0) 7511 776 795.

The game is free to download and free to play. Supercell offers an optional Gold Pass from Town Hall 3, plus gem packs inside the official client, priced by your app store. Hearthline is a fan guide only. We do not sell gems, accounts, boosting, or modified apps. If a page online promises free currency for a login, it is not us and it is not Supercell.

Six Home Village heroes are in the game. The Barbarian King moved to Town Hall 4 in May 2026, and the Archer Queen unlocks at Town Hall 8. The Grand Warden arrives at Town Hall 11, the Royal Champion at Town Hall 13, the Minion Prince with the later halls, and Dragon Duke at Town Hall 15. Since November 2024 they share a Hero Hall instead of four separate altars, and that hall’s level caps their upgrades. Each hero equips gear from the Blacksmith.

A regular Clan War is a prep day plus a battle day against one matched clan. Attacks score up to three stars, and the clan with the stronger star total wins. Clan War Leagues are the longer monthly ladder: several battle days, promotion and demotion between leagues, and bonus loot for the clan. Raid weekends on the Clan Capital are a third calendar, paid in Capital Gold for district upgrades. Our Journal summarises when a patch changes modifiers. Email [email protected] if a number on this site disagrees with your client.

Reader notes

What chiefs write back

Reader portrait beside a note about Town Hall 12 war attacks

Elena Morales

“The Town Hall 12 note finally made siege machines click. I stopped dropping a Wall Wrecker into the wrong compartment, and our war stars stopped depending on luck.”

Reader portrait beside a note about Legend League

Javier Contreras

“I like that the hero caps are written as caps, not as a promise I will reach them this month. Legend League still punishes a rushed base, and the page says so.”

Reader portrait beside a note about Clan Capital raids

Sofia Herrera

“Our clan used the Capital raid summary before a weekend. Capital Gold went into the district we had voted on, and nobody treated the guide like an official Supercell page.”
